At its event today, Xiaomi unveiled several new devices, including its highly anticipated smart glasses. This new product from the company arrives as a direct competitor to the smart glasses developed by Meta in collaboration with Ray-Ban.

It was revealed last year that Xiaomi was developing AI-powered glasses in partnership with the Chinese manufacturer Goertek. Those glasses have now finally been launched under the name Xiaomi Smart AI Glasses. The glasses feature Xiaomi’s own voice assistant, Hyper XiaoAI, a 12MP camera, five microphones, and two speakers. Powering all this technology is a Snapdragon AR1 chip and a low-power Bluetooth audio chip.

Similar to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Xiaomi’s version does not have a display. You issue commands using your voice or by touching the frame. You can capture photos and videos and get real-time translation of foreign-language text. There is even a China-exclusive feature that allows you to make Alipay payments just by looking at a QR code and giving a voice command.

Naturally, the glasses are launching first in China. For now, Xiaomi says this model is designed for Asian facial features. This could mean that a global release may not happen, but the company is choosing not to answer those questions at this time.
